Today we drove down to Ft. Snelling National Cemetery where my grandparents on my mother's side are buried and then down to a cemetery in Rochester where Ruth's grandparents are buried. My Grandfather came to the USA from Sweden when he was 17. He ended up in France fighting for the USA in WW-I and had many stories of near misses and God's grace in seeing him through. He was in France on armicist day and recalled a thick fog that cleared right at the moment the war ended. My Grandmother came from a farm in North Dakota from a German family. She moved down to St. Paul where she met and married my Grandfather.Ruth's Grandfather was originally from Mexico City. Her Grandmother was from the "valley" in South Texas. Her uncle was a county judge in La Jolla, TX (if I have my story straight.) They met and married and ended up in Northern Minnesota of all places. Ruth was born in Bemidji and raised by her grand parents.

Curt, Thanks for posting the history of the grandparents of Ruth and yourself. So often we get caught up in our own lives and forget the richness of our past. It reminds me of a favorite hymn, "Faith of our Fathers". A very appropriate post for Memorial Day weekend.
